Totton Train Station Community Projects
Our community projects are all about improving the train station environment, nurturing a sense of belonging, and benefitting the local community.
Completed Projects
Totton Train Station Mural
The Totton Train Station Mural project was a fantastic inaugural project for the Totton Community Rail station adoption group. Partnering with Totton and Eling Town Council, Totton College, as well as Network Rail and South Western Railway to get this wonderful piece of community art up on Platform 2.
We worked closely with a group of art students from Totton College to develop designs for our mural that would really speak to Totton's personality as a place which straddles the urban and the rural. We ran a public vote with our four shortlisted designs, with artist Ceara Taggart's design being selected. Ceara then painted her design to scale, which was then photographed and digitally printed onto sealed aluminium by PhotoSolutions. The mural was installed in October 2022.
Projects in Progress
Community meeting space
The Totton Train Station waiting room was renovated in Spring 2023, and Totton Community Rail became keyholders. We are able to offer the waiting room as a free meeting room for community groups. We are currently working on personalising the waiting room by adding posters, leaflets and artwork, and sourcing folding chairs and tables which can be stored at the station for meetings.
Promoting Totton
We are working together with Totton and Eling Town Council, Boost Totton and Eling, and the Totton and Eling Neighbourhood Plan to promote what Totton has on offer. We want to let more locals and visitors to our town know of all the wonderful facilities and natural amenities that we have here, as well as creating maps of what is in walking distance from the train station.
